Live Fall Auction at Meadowbrooke Gourds

Thank you to everyone that came out to the farm for our Fall Open House weekends! We hope you enjoyed the festivities. One highlight from the last weekend was our live gourd auction. These one-of-a-kind gourds were put up for bidding at our retail store. Some exciting news for future Meadowbrooke Auctions- during our Winter Open House for the first time ever, we will start accepting bids online through our website! This is very exciting as we have had many requests for out of town folks to be able to participate in the bidding.

We will give you more details about online bidding closer to the date. For now, here are a few photos of the unique products at the Fall Auction:

Quick and Easy Fall Decorating Project

If you’re looking for a quick and easy fall decorating project, here is an idea that we just love.

Simply take your small, fresh ornamental gourds and pumpkins and spray paint them different metallic colors of your choosing. We love the look of gold and a taupe-silver together.

You can display these sophisticated beauties in so many ways! Group them together as shown on a cake stand for a gorgeous, simple centerpiece, or display them in a large bowl mixed with pinecones, twigs, and other fall elements.

You can also take this technique and apply it to dried gourds for an arrangement that will last from year to year.

2 inch bottle gourds (shown above) would make  for a lovely arrangement. Mix the dried gourds in with the fresh gourds and pumpkins for an interesting, fall display.

National Apple Harvest Festival 2011

Every year, we have a booth at the National Apple Harvest Festival in Arendstville, PA. It is always the first and second (full) weekends in October. The first weekend was rainy and dreary, but the second weekend was absolutely beautiful! The festival saw record-breaking numbers as folks came out to enjoy the delicious, local apple products, vendors, and fun!

Crafter’s Corner

We have introduced a brand new feature to our website called Crafter’s Corner!!! Here you will find a series of products created completely by hand by a master gourd craftsman. Right now we are featuring the crafts and art of Todd Heller.

About Todd Heller:
I officially started working for Meadowbrooke Gourds in 2000, but I had done shows before for them and have been on every company vacation. I mainly work in the crafting area cutting and putting parts on gourds. I enjoy working with everyone here and I enjoy going to the shows to see people’s reactions to our creations. I’m married, and my wife works here too. I also have two children, Zack and Lauren. I like to spend time with my family and work on my little tiny truck when I am not at work.

Here are just a few of his signature items available online through Crafter’s Corner:

Signature Series Dragonfly Gourd

Signature Series Black Bumblebee

Signature Series Flower

View all of Todd Heller’s creations here. In honor of Crafter’s Corner, we will be posting a lot of crafting information, tips and tricks on our blog so stay tuned!

Congratulations to our Gourd Float Winner!

Our very first Gourd Float Race at last week’s Summer Celebration was a huge success! The winner, Jennifer (number 009), won this gourd pictured below along with $100! It took about 55 minutes for the gourds to get from the bridge to the finish line. We had 74 gourds entered, so we will be able to donate $370.00 to the Big Spring Food Bank. Thank you to all that participated! We hope for this race to become a Meadowbrooke tradition!

The one-of-a-kind gourd was awarded to our gourd float race winner!
